How Strong is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4?
Just this August 10, Samsung surprised the world with its Great Than Galaxy Unpacked. It is a collection of flagship-grade premium smartphones including Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold4 which comes with a promise of Gorilla Glass Victus Plus that protects the device from dips and drops.
The phone is aesthetically pleasing yet it does not compromise its quality and durability. Equipped with the all-new and improved hinge delicately made with light materials, the Galaxy Z Fold4 ends it for our every day flat phones. Armored with an aircraft-grade strength aluminum frame and IPX8 water resistance, Samsung guarantees a slimmer yet sturdier foldable phone that can stand over 200, 000 folds.
10 years ago, we probably did not imagine that phones would be both foldable and have an infinite screen. We probably did not imagine that one day we can fold the ever so delicate LED screen. Advertisement after advertisement has claimed that this once seemed to be impossible phone is sturdy and does not break in a snap!
BUT! We do not just rely on promises and words and Zack Nelson is one of us. The YouTuber performed a series of durability tests on his YouTube channel—Jerryrigeverything to see how true the tech giant’s words are. The tests include the scratch test, dust test, burn test, and the most anticipated, bend test.
The first part is the scratch test on both sides (front and back) of the phone but the Galaxy Z Fold4’s external screen protected by Gorilla Glass Victus Plus remained unbothered and only suffered light scratches at level 6 of the Moh’s hardness scale. Deeper and more noticeable damage was observed when Zack took it up a notch and performed the test at level 7.
However, the YouTuber reiterates that the inner display is softer that the external one that even the user’s fingernails and a guitar pick can leave a scratch if it is pressed too much. Good thing that the internal display is protected by a thick plastic cover that even a razor blade did not damage the sensors of the camera. Now that’s one hell of a tough screen compared to the sensitive LED screen we used to have!
For the dust test, gravel is placed inside the phone before it was opened and closed several times. Surprisingly the phone survived such harsh conditions. But gravel is not as harsh as fire. So when Zack performed the burn test, it left marks on the display. But who sets their phone on fire, right? The marks left by the fire were expected by many and most if not all phones would behave the same way but what surprised the YouTuber is how the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 survived the abuse in the dust test.
Last was the bend test. It is amazing how a tough man like Zack had trouble bending the phone but it was easy peasy for the Galaxy Z Fodl4 to survive the test. Samsung once again proved that phones can both be pleasing to the eye and be durable at the same time.
